This page verifies that your Antivirus software is functioning and configured properly by trying to detect the standard EICAR test file. The applet tries to write this safe industry-standard "eicar" test string to a local file <user.dir>\_JSeicartest.txt and detects the system response. Also displays Win32 shared network folders.

Please wait until the security dialog has appeared before clicking on the buttons below.

Win95       WinNT       Win2000

Verify AV Operation:
View Shared Folders:

  • Clicking the Verify AV Operation button performs a safe virus test (EICAR) on your system. Your screen may become blank momentarily (Win9x) or an AV warning window may appear (NT4, Win2000, XP), possibly hidden behind other windows. This response indicates that your antivirus program is functioning properly. Close these warning windows.

  • Clicking the View Shared Folders button launches the Net Watcher utility on Win9x (if available), or writes a local single-line batch file <user.dir>\_JSmigshowshare.bat which executes the built-in net share command for WinNT, Win2000 and XP. These windows display shared resources on the local machine. For WinNT, Win2000 and XP, hidden shares are also displayed.
